Fuji X – In Camera Perfection

One of my favorite features of the Fuji X-Series cameras, including the X-T1 and previous models, is the in-camera RAW processing features.  Ironically enough, like the famous James Bond inventor of magical spy tools, this Fuji feature is accessed using the ‘Q’ button. This portrait of our newest kitten was…

Pages for Black and White with the Fuji X-Series Settings for Great Black and White with the Fuji X100s – Part I Settings for Great Black and White with the Fuji X100s – Part II (here) It’s a long time coming, but I wanted too finish the discussion I started…

Fuji Firmware Update 3.10 for XF Lenses and the X-E2 – A Must.

Fuji announced a firmware update for four XF lenses to take advantage of the LMO and PDAF of the Fuji X-E2.  This version 3.10 is outstanding as I’ll tell you about in just a moment.  First, I always forget what those acronyms stand for.  I guess that comes from shooting…

Initial Reaction to the Fuji X-E2

I waited for two days as the tracking number showed my package getting closer to delivery.  Like the initial hype of the Leica X-Vario, I didn’t want to build my expectations too high for the X-E2, but the concept of the X-Trans II sensor and better focusing was too tempting….

Leica X2 or Fuji X100s – Which to Take with Me?

The Fuji X100s has such great usability and the sensor detail is superb with the 35mm (equivalent) f/2.0 lens.  The Leica X2 has the same focal length, but starts at f/2.8, has a much slower focus, far fewer settings and uses a dial for the f/stop rather than a ring…

Vacation with the Fuji X-Pro1 and Voigltander / Leica Lenses

I spent a week at the Outer Banks of North Carolina with extended family. I shot over 800 images using only two lenses – a Voiglander Nokton 50mm f/1.5 (newest version) and a Leica M 28mm ASPH f/2.0.  The next few articles will be some reflections and experiences on this…

Fuji Pulls Flawed X-Pro1 Firmware 3.0 – Golden Marketing Move

Fuji pulled the X-Pro1 firmware version 3.0 due to a flaw in the movie mode.  Today’s post is not about the photographic quality of the X-Series, but rather the reason that Fuji has made the X-Series the best camera on the market today.  I may be stretching, but I don’t…

Fuji Scores with the New Firmware 3.0 for the X-Pro1

First, sorry for the lack of posting this month – vacation and boy scout camp put a damper on computer time, but certainly not the photography time.  I’m processing about 1,000 images from a week at camp, solely with the X-Pro1 and X100s.  Some of the images will surprise you…

Fuji X-Pro1 – Black and White Images that Glow

Sometimes you just nail the exposure.  I find that when that happens to me, it was really just perfect lighting.  Ironically, yesterday I posted about the importance of getting the best possible exposure as the top priority.  Today, I went down the Reef Bay trail to some 1,000 year old…

Exposures with the Fuji X-Pro1

There are several photography quotes I really like.  First, “the best camera is the one you have with you” and second, “practice, practice, practice.”  There is no doubt in my mind that anyone aspiring to produce great photographs has to practice exposure techniques more than anything else.  Learning the physics…
