Leica X (Typ 113) Review – Part 2

I took the X to Charleston, South Carolina for the weekend to see how it might perform.  Overall, the focus was fast and write speed was so quick I had no hold-up in writing to the SD Card while shooting photographs.  I still have to get used to the changes between…

Leica X (Type 113) Review – Part 1

Hopefully, if time permits, I will get several parts out for this review.  For now, this is a quick look at some out-of-camera JPEG’s (OOC for short).  I looked carefully at the same OOC JPEGs in the Fuji X series and was pleased.  Let’s see what we find here in…

Initial Reaction to the Fuji X-E2

I waited for two days as the tracking number showed my package getting closer to delivery.  Like the initial hype of the Leica X-Vario, I didn’t want to build my expectations too high for the X-E2, but the concept of the X-Trans II sensor and better focusing was too tempting….

Fuji X-Pro1 and Iridient Developer – Sharp as a Tack

Coming from someone that absolutely loves Adobe Lightroom, I have to say, the Iridient Developer has a great many positive attributes to processing RAW (RAF) images from the Fuji X-Trans Sensors.  This was a simple macro shot of a Caladium leaf that had rain drops left.  The color was true…

Fuji X-Pro1Images with New Firmware 3.0

Ok, I know that firmware 3.1 is now out, but I don’t anticipate differences except in the movie module.  So I spent some time this morning shooting the railroad tracks near an old mill.  I used the 60mm lens for all but the last three shots.  What I found was…

Heliar 50mm f/3.5 on a Leica M9-P – Great Little Lens!

UPDATED:  I updated some of the links to Camera Quest and changed ‘dealer’ to ‘distributor’ as Stephen so kindly pointed out!  Thanks, Stephen! I received my 10th anniversary, nickel plated, brass housed, Voigtlander 50mm Heliar.  This lens is a screw mount and collapsable, reminiscent of the early film days.  Voigtlander…

Fuji X100s – Which is RAW and which is JPEG?

I keep posting about how much I like the in camera JPEG files with no modification.  I guess part of this is because I “grew up” on film cameras where what you shot was what you got.  So, I like the challenge of nailing the exposure in the Fuji X100s…

Backlit Cat with Leica-M 75mm ASPH APO

Borris.  Borris is the name of our marshmellow cat.  I found him sitting on the deck railing with the setting sun behind him.  A perfect opportunity to test the APO corrections to the Leica-M 75mm ASPH APO lens.  I think the test is passed.  See for yourself. I also included…

Moire and the Fuji X100s

One of the unique attributes of the FujiFilm X-Series is the way the color pixels are laid out on the sensor.  Most color digital sensors have a pattern of red, green and blue pixels.  Without going into great scientific detail, there are more green pixels than red or blue, but…

Comparison of Flare in Leica Elmar-M 24 and Elmarit-M 24

First, this is not scientific, but a simple review of two images to compare the flare in two Leica wide angle lenses.  In order to make a more thorough conclusion, one would need to take multiple images at varying f/stops and conditions with more measurable data.  I decided to make…
